Hazardous Materials Management

Asbestos Services

The Asbestos Advisory Team are part of DIT Technical Services Section within Policy, Strategy & Program Development.  The Asbestos Advisory Team utilises extensive hazard management and toxicology knowledge for the management of asbestos in Government assets. They provide across-government advice on managing issues with asbestos containing material (ACM) in accordance with relevant State and Federal strategies and regulations.

They provide advice on the following asbestos management issues:

  • Site inspections and recommendations
  • Asbestos removals
  • Emergency asbestos incident management
  • Risk assessments
  • Preparation and updating of asbestos registers
  • Asbestos education

The continued legacy of asbestos containing materials (ACM) in government buildings is a significant concern for the South Australian Government, which is committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of its employees while at work and minimising the risk to the health of employees, contractors and the public from exposure to asbestos. The Government’s commitment to this protection is exemplified through the provision of an annual Asbestos Removal Fund.
