3rd Major Bridge installation

As part of the Darlington Upgrade Project, eight bridges are being constructed to improve connectivity and traffic flow in the area.

One of the bridges will be located at the intersection of Ayliffes, South and Shepherds Hill Roads and will carry northbound traffic from Main South Road onto Ayliffes Road.

The 377 metre long Ayliffes Road bridge is being constructed in two halves.

The southern section of the bridge will be constructed using traditional processes where the structure is built on-site from the ground up. The northern section is being constructed using the ‘off-line’ method, which involves the structure being built off-site and then transported and lifted into place.

Building the bridge in this way significantly reduces community and traffic impacts and requires only one partial closure of the intersection of Ayliffes, South and Shepherds Hill Roads rather than numerous full weekend closures that would be required if built traditionally.
