Greenhill Road Maintenance Works
Background
An extreme weather event in June 2023 resulted in a landslip along a section of Greenhill Road, near Yanagin Road affecting the structural integrity of the safety barrier. Whilst the issue may not be visible from the roadway, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) closed a lane and installed temporary traffic lights as a safety measure.
Following a recent review of traffic restrictions in place, the Department has substantially reduced the length of the temporary speed zone.
What's Happening
Works involve installing a retaining wall to reinstate and stabilise the roadside slope as well as replacing the safety barrier at various locations within the work area.
To do this work safely, we will have speed and lane restrictions in the work area. Please plan your trips and be cautious around workers and follow the speed limits and signs.
There will be changes to traffic conditions to keep everyone safe. On the following days, Greenhill Road will be required to be closed between Yarrabee Road and Mount Lofty Summit Road, from 9am-4pm temporarily during the works, with a detour in place. Local access will be available.
- Thursday 11 January 2024 between 9am and 4pm
- Friday 12 January 2024 between 9am and 4pm
- Saturday 13 January 2024 between 9am and 4pm
- Monday 15 January 2024 between 9am and 4pm
At all other times, Greenhill Road will be reduced to a single lane with temporary signals in place to control the direction of traffic.
Outside of working hours speed and lane restrictions will remain in place until project completion in early February 2024. Some noise disturbance can be expected at times, however we will manage the work to minimise disturbances as much as practically possible. Please plan your trips, be cautious around workers and follow speed limits and signage.
Public transport
Some Adelaide Metro bus services and bus stops may be temporarily impacted while work is underway. Please observe bus stop signage and visit www.adelaidemetro.com.au for the latest information.
Pedestrians and cyclists
Pedestrians and cyclists should take care when travelling through the area. For safety reasons, there may be some restricted access. Signage will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists to alternative access and/or detours.
We thank you for your understanding and patience whilst we undertake these important works.

During catastrophic fire danger days or at other times as requested by the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS) traffic management contractors will be on standby and respond to advice by the CFS, including potentially opening the road to bi-directional traffic under a reduced speed zone or operating the road one-way only.
