Military Road Pedestrian Actuated Crossing (PAC)

As part of the State Government’s election commitment to enhancing pedestrian safety, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport will design and install a pedestrian actuated crossing on Military Road. Funding of $1.1 million has been allocated to this project.

The pedestrian actuated crossing will be installed on Military Road between St Albans Terrace and Recreation Parade, immediately to the north of Jena Close. The new pedestrian actuated crossing will improve access to the popular Reserve and contribute to improved safety when crossing Military Road. Works will include:

  • installation if a pedestrian actuated (push button) crossing;
  • removal of existing and replacement with new ramps and median cut outs;
  • pavement resurfacing within the extent of the work;
  • upgraded road lighting; and
  • new pedestrian fencing.

Pedestrian surveys undertaken showed that this location is popular for people walking between residential areas to the east of Military Road and Point Malcolm Reserve, Coast Park path and the beach. Military Road has a posted speed limit of 60 km/h and an estimated Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) volume of 18,700 vehicles per day, 3% of these being commercial vehicles.
