Port Road, Queenstown (Old Port Road to Tapleys Hill Road) – full time parking and bicycle lane installation

Port Road, Queenstown

About the project

The Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) has improved safety for all road users and parking conditions for local businesses on Port Road between Old Port Road and Tapleys Hill Road through the construction of full time parking spaces and bicycle lanes.

As the traffic volumes on this stretch of Port Road can be efficiently catered for by two lanes, the project removed one vehicle lane in each direction to provide space for full time on-street parking and full time bicycle lanes. This, in turn, has delivered a safer road environment for everyone through the provision of dedicated road space for parking and for people riding bicycles.

The works included:

  • retention of all existing movements at the intersection of Port Road and Old Port Road
  • reconfiguration of the previous environment to a two lane road, with a full time kerbside parking lane and a full time bicycle lane alongside it, for road users travelling towards Port Adelaide
  • reconfiguration of the previous environment, commencing between Brougham Place and Earle Avenue, to a two lane road, with a full time kerbside parking lane and a full time bicycle lane alongside it, for road users travelling towards Adelaide.
