Riddoch Highway Overtaking Lanes
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) is continuing to undertake safety improvements on the Riddoch Highway by constructing two new overtaking lanes between Naracoorte and Penola. Overtaking lanes improve road safety by providing and encouraging safe overtaking opportunities for all road users.
The project will involve construction of a northbound overtaking lane north of Wrattonbully Road, Joanna, and a southbound overtaking lane south of Edenhope Road, Coonawarra. The lanes will be constructed, concurrently, approximately 17 kilometres and 33 kilometres south of Naracoorte, respectively.
This project forms part of the $155 million South Australian Rural Roads Safety Package, which is jointly funded (80:20) by the Australian and South Australian governments and aims to improve road safety and increase freight productivity for all road users. The project supported approximately 45 full-time equivalent jobs per year during construction.
