Thank you for your patience and understanding during these important works.

About the project

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport has upgraded the O’Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp facility. Built in 1983, the boat ramp is an important part of South Australia’s marine infrastructure that is popular with recreational boat users, as well as an important facility for emergency services to launch and retrieve vessels.

This upgrade has improved the operational use of the facility by reducing congestion during peak periods and improving access and safety for launching boats.

The upgrade works included:

  • construction of an additional boat lane, increasing launch capacity;
  • installation of a new L-shaped pontoon, increasing boat tie-up capacity;
  • enhancement of the existing concrete ramps;
  • replacement of existing pontoons;
  • widening the vehicle maneuvering area; and
  • provision for two new accessible car parking spaces close to the pontoons.

This project was funded by the South Australian Government and included the election commitment to invest an additional $1 million to ensure the facility was made safe and accessible.

Additional Works

Following extensive community feedback, the Department increased the project scope to include operational improvements to the existing traffic management system and the washing and rigging bays. These treatments will help in reducing congestion during peak periods and improving access for facility users, as well as improving traffic flow for vehicles.

Additional treatments included:

  • Installation of new traffic and directional signage to improve traffic flow around the washing and rigging bays;
  • Installation of regulatory parking signage at washing bays;
  • Installation of a dedicated Emergency Services rigging bay and associated line marking; and
  • Updated line marking to assist with traffic flow, specifically the washing and rigging bays.
