Project Update

Updated 26 July 2023

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed concept design for Brighton Road and Edwards Street Junction.

All feedback received from the community was reviewed. The concept design has been updated to retain the Pedestrian Actuated Crossing (signalised push-button crossing) on Brighton Road, south of Gregory Street. In response to community feedback, this crossing will be sequenced with the new junction to manage traffic flow. Please refer to the updated concept design over the page.

Prior to major construction commencing in the coming months, service relocation works are required.

Utility services relocation works

As part of this upgrade, service relocation works will now occur at various locations on and around the junction. Works will include the relocation of telecommunications infrastructure, relocation of SA Power Networks infrastructure and telecommunication infrastructure.

Individual service providers, including SA Power Networks, NBN Co and/or telecommunication providers, will advise separately of any potential interruptions to services during these works.

Works will be undertaken on Wednesday, 2 August 2023 between 7pm and 6am (weather permitting).

To safely facilitate these works, the junction of Brighton Road and Edwards Street will be temporarily closed. During working hours, motorists will need to detour via Marlborough Street, Commercial Road or Oleander Street East, Scott Street. Speed and lane restrictions will also be in place in the vicinity of the works. Local access to Edwards Street residents and businesses will be maintained via the detour. Refer to the map overleaf for traffic detour information.

Works will also be undertaken on:

  • Saturday, 5 August 2023 between 4am to 3pm (weather permitting).
  • Sunday, 6 August 2023 between 4am to 3pm (weather permitting).
  • Saturday, 12 August 2023 between 11pm to 8am (weather permitting).
  • Tuesday, 15 August 2023 between 7am to 7pm (weather permitting).

During these working hours the junction will remain open to traffic, however temporary lane and speed restrictions will be required when workers are on site. Temporary footpath detours may also be required. Where required, signage will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists to alternative access and/or detours. Bus stops will not be impacted.

Please take extra care when workers are on site. Observe traffic management signs, speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area.

Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to nearby residents and businesses as much as practically possible. Where night works are required, this will include scheduling intrusive works during the early evening where possible.
