Porter Street, Liverpool Street and Railway Place Intersection Upgrade

We are upgrading the Porter Street, Liverpool Street (Lincoln Highway) and Railway Place intersection in Port Lincoln. The $4.5 million upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian (80%) and South Australian (20%) governments as part of the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.

The concept design includes the installation of traffic signals as the preferred treatment, as it best achieves:

  • increased safety for all users throughout the intersection
  • improved traffic movements throughout the intersection
  • new pedestrian (push button) crossing facilities
  • improved footpaths for better access around the intersection

Engagement

Our project team held two community information sessions in Port Lincoln and received 77 online survey responses and submissions. We also connected with businesses surrounding the intersection and other key stakeholders, to share the proposed design and seek their localised insights.

What We Heard

Overall, 70% of survey responses said they supported the proposed design and felt it would improve safety for all users of the intersection. See the full consultation summary.

We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to share your thoughts on the proposed design.

Construction timeline

In the coming months you may notice some early work activities around the intersection, including site surveys and service relocations.

Major construction is scheduled to commence in late 2025, with project completion expected in early 2026. Advance notice will be provided ahead of early works and before works major construction commences.
