Safer crossing for cyclists and pedestrians in Adelaide’s inner north
Monday, 26 September 2022
Cyclists and pedestrians can now enjoy a safer journey on the Prospect Bikeway with the activation of the new bicycle and pedestrian crossing over Fitzroy Terrace, between Braund Road and the Adelaide Park Lands.
The actuated (push button) crossing has been installed at the site of the existing crossing near Braund Road, Fitzroy, to improve safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists. It was activated on Monday, 19 September.
Signalising the existing crossing will make it easier for people to ride or walk between the City of Prospect and the Adelaide CBD.
A wombat crossing (raised pedestrian crossing) and bike lane have also been installed on the Fitzroy Terrace service road as part of the project. This new bike lane connects the crossing to the existing bike lanes on Braund Road, enabling users of the crossing to continue along the Prospect Bikeway without having to cross Braund Road.
In response to community feedback and engagement with the City of Prospect, new landscaping on the verge between Fitzroy Terrace and Braund Road was also undertaken, which involved planting several local species.
The project has not changed access for vehicles into or out of Braund Road or the Fitzroy Terrace service road.
