T2D funding locked in
14 February 2022
Funding for the entire Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project has been confirmed, with the Federal Government announcing an additional $2.26 billion of Commonwealth investment for Stage 2 of the job-creating motorway.
The $9.9 billion project is jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian governments on a 50:50 basis.
The T2D Project is the final section of the North-South Corridor and, once complete, will deliver 78km of non-stop travel between Gawler and Old Noarlunga.
The 10.5km T2D – almost 7km of which will be two sets of twin tunnels – will support more than 4,900 jobs during peak construction, allow motorists to bypass 21 sets of traffic lights, and improve travel times by about 20 minutes to deliver a nine-minute journey between the River Torrens and Darlington.
Other benefits include:
- providing better access to travel gateways, including Adelaide Airport, the Port of Adelaide and the national highway network;
- preserving sites of cultural importance; and
- creating urban renewal opportunities for local businesses and residents through a dedicated $125 million City Shaping Program.
