Key utilities work underway
1 September 2021
Vital work is underway at the southern end of the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project to relocate electricity and telecommunications services in readiness for the scheduled 2023 start of the motorway’s construction.
SA Power Networks and Optus are disconnecting and reconnecting cables in the streets of Clovelly Park – including York Avenue and Princes Parade – immediately west of South Road.
The relocation of gas and water services is likely to begin in late 2021 or early 2022.
This enabling work clears the way for the establishment of a laydown area in Tonsley-Clovelly Park from which two huge tunnel-boring machines will 'launch' to excavate T2D’s twin three-lane Southern Tunnels.
Upon completion, the laydown area will be transformed into the new motorway, connecting the Darlington Interchange to the tunnel. By using the same space for the laydown area and new motorway, T2D will minimise the land required to deliver the project.
The T2D Community and Stakeholder Engagement team is speaking face-to-face with local residents and businesses over coming months about what potential changes to their neighbourhoods might mean for them.
