Southern Tunnels

The twin Southern Tunnels – in northbound and southbound directions, each with three traffic lanes – are the centrepiece of Stage 1 of the T2D Project connecting Darlington to Anzac Highway.

This section has about 6 km of motorway, more than 4 km of which is tunnel between Anzac Highway and Darlington.

Besides the tunnels, the section includes an elevated ramp at Glandore providing a crucial connection onto Anzac Highway that allows motorists to drive direct from the southern suburbs onto Anzac Highway towards the Adelaide CBD without stopping at traffic lights.

Construction of the Southern Tunnels is scheduled to start in 2023 and be open to traffic in early 2029.
