Accreditation & Licensing Centre permanently closed

The Service SA Accreditation and Licensing Centre at Mile End has permanently closed.

Customers can visit any Service SA Centre across the state to complete their passenger transport transactions. This includes centres that operate on Saturdays.

Since the beginning of June 2024, over 3000 customers have completed passenger transport transactions at Service SA centres across the state.

Non-SATSS Access Taxi Card

The State Government has extended the application of the $25 lifting fee to Access Taxi customers who use a wheelchair, scooter or large (ride-on) mobility aide and are not currently a member of the South Australian Transport Subsidy Scheme (SATSS).

This arrangement was previously only available for SATSS members for trips booked through the Access Taxi Centralised Booking Service (Access Taxi CBS).

Non-SATSS customers who use a wheelchair, scooter or large (ride-on) mobility aide and are not currently a SATSS member can register for a non-SATSS Access Taxi Card.

From Monday 1 July 2024 non-SATSS Access Taxi Card holders are required to present their card to drivers for the lifting fee to be applied. Customers who do not hold a non-SATSS Access Taxi Card can still book an Access Taxi.

Information flyers that drivers can provide to passengers about the non-SATSS Access Taxi Card are available from the Access Taxi Centralised Booking Service and inspection stations.

EFTPOS receipt reminder

EFTPOS receipts must be correct and accurate as defined in the Passenger Transport Regulations 2009 (the Regulations). To be compliant in EFTPOS receipting, Regulation 64A (6) of the regulations must be adhered to and the driver of a taxi must provide a receipt to the passenger, which includes:

  • The taxi driver’s name and identification number
  • The licence number of the taxi
  • The location the hire was accepted and terminated
  • An itemised list of the cost of the fare including the metered fare, GST, service fees and any additional rates and charges
  • The total amount of the charge for the hiring of the taxi
  • The time and date of the payment

If the EFTPOS terminal does not include the above information on a printed receipt, drivers/operators may need to upgrade to a compliant EFTPOS to avoid potential penalties.

Non-compliance will be investigated by the Department and may result in an expiation.

Cameras in taxi, rideshare and chauffer vehicles

Division 6 of the Passenger Transport Regulations 2009 (the Regulations) sets out requirements for the use of security camera systems in taxis. A taxi must not be used unless fitted with an approved security camera system (regulation 75) and operators must ensure that the regulated signage is fitted advising passengers about audio and video recording by the accredited system. Accredited camera systems in taxis that comply with the Regulations also comply with the Surveillance Devices Act 2016.

Any other cameras installed in taxis, rideshare or chauffeur vehicles need to comply with the Surveillance Devices Act 2016 which includes offences for a person knowingly installing, using or maintaining an optical surveillance device or listening device in a vehicle without the express or implied consent of each party to the activity. Drivers and operators must consider the requirements and offences within this legislation with respect to other cameras installed. Further information about these requirements is available at: FactSheet_Surveillance.pdf (lawhandbook.sa.gov.au)
