Gawler East Link Road Project
Project Overview
Major works have been completed and the road is open to traffic as of 18 October 2020.
The Gawler East Link Road (GELR) provides local traffic with direct access to Main North Road without travelling through the Gawler Town Centre, reducing travel times, reducing the likelihood of crashes and minimising the vehicle emissions caused by travel delays.
The project provides flexibility for future growth of population, as well as allow full development of Gawler East. It supported economic activity in Gawler and enhance connectivity between current and future developments, commercial and school precincts, and created approximately 110 local construction employment opportunities through the life of the project in line with SA’s Industry Participation Policy.
The benefits of the GELR include:
- direct access for commuters to Main North Road without needing to travel through the Gawler Town Centre;
- reduction in congestion and travel times on the local road network;
- less likelihood of crashes in the Gawler Township;
- reduction of vehicle emissions caused by travel delays;
- creates access for potential future extensions off the link road.

Project Time Lapse
Landscaping Works
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) advises that as part of the Gawler East Link Road and Tulloch Road Intersection Upgrade finishing works, landscaping will be undertaken at various locations along Main North Road, EVANSTON PARK.
Work hours: Monday to Friday between 7am and 4:30pm.
Activities:
· 12/4/2021 cultivate – planting of vegetation and trees.
· 27/4/2021 installation of irrigation and mulch.
Traffic management: There will be speed restrictions for the kerbside lane between Adelaide Tools and Hungry Jacks whilst the works are being undertaken.
Footpaths will remain open under traffic supervision as required.
Access to local businesses in the area will remain open whilst these works are in progress. Please support your local businesses.
Night Works
Night works will be undertaken on Main North Road, between Ames Road and Krieg Road, and on sections of Para, Potts and Tulloch Roads, and Morrow Avenue, Evanston Park, for approximately three weeks commencing on Sunday, 17 May.
Dates: from 7pm, Sunday, 17 May, until 7am, Friday, 5 June, weather permitting.
Work hours: works will be undertaken each night between 7pm and 7am, excluding Friday and Saturday nights
Location: Main North Road (between Ames Road and Krieg Road), and on sections of Para, Potts and Tulloch roads, and Morrow Avenue. Work zones will shift regularly to limit disruption to local residents.
Activities: placement of final asphalt wearing course and line marking. For more information, see the attached Notification
Main North Road Works
As part of the final stage of construction works along Main North Road, works will commence from Monday, 23 March, continuing for approximately 10 weeks.
Work Hours: Mondays to Fridays between 7am and 4:30pm, Saturdays between 7am and 1:30pm.
Location of works: Main North Road, between Ames Road and Krieg Road, Evanston Park.
Activities: Installation of stormwater infrastructure, construction of centre medians and new asphalt works.

Traffic signals at both Main North Road intersections will be operation mid-2020.
Potts Road, Gawler One Tree Hill Road and Calton Road Roundabouts
The construction of all three roundabouts are underway and expected to be completed by late May 2020.
Traffic Lights
The commissioning of traffic lights at the intersection of Main North Road/Tulloch Road/Morrow Avenue was completed on 8 April 2020.
The commissioning of traffic lights at the intersection of Main North Road/Potts Road/Para Road was completed on 24 April 2020.

Project Timeframe
Major works have been completed and the road is open to traffic as of 18 October 2020.
Expected completion was revised due to the inclusion of the Tulloch Road Intersection Upgrade, delivery of future services infrastructure (new sewer and water main), and additional earthworks within Springwood.

Tulloch Road Intersection Upgrade

Project Overview
The South Australian Government has committed $7.5 million to upgrade the Main North Road, Tulloch Road and Morrow Avenue Intersection, including duplication of Main North Road on approach and through the intersection.
The project will improve traffic flow, increase safety for drivers and pedestrians and better accommodate cyclists through the inclusion of new bicycle lanes.
28 jobs are expected to be supported over the life of the project.
The intersection upgrade includes:
- upgrade of the Main North Road intersection with Tulloch Road and Morrow Avenue, including duplication of Main North Road on approach and through the intersection;
- installation of traffic signals at the Main North Road / Tulloch Road / Morrow Avenue intersection including pedestrian crossings across all three roads;
- construction of a new dedicated left turn lane from Main North Road into Tulloch Road;
- construction of a new through lane from Tulloch Road into Morrow Avenue;
- construction of new bicycle lanes on Main North Road through the intersection with Morrow Avenue and Tulloch Road;
- construction and upgrade of existing footpaths;
- upgrade of the Tulloch Road junction with Barnet Road. Barnet Road is also being changed to a cul-de-sac, at the junction of Barnet Road and Para Road, as part of the Gawler East Link Road Project; and
- installation of LED road lighting to save energy and improve night time visibility.
Latest News
Tulloch Road
Relocation of services and road widening have been completed.
New LED street lighting has been installed and will be operational shortly.
Main North Road
Traffic signals at the Main North Road Intersection with Tulloch Road and Morrow Avenue are scheduled to be operational mid-2020.
Project Timeframe
The Tulloch Road Intersection Upgrade is due for completion late 2020.
