Old Belair and James Road Junction
Project Update - April 2022
The South Australian Government is delivering on its commitment to put the Old Belair and James Road junction project on hold and refer it to Infrastructure SA (ISA) for review. This will ensure the best approach to address traffic and access issues in the Mitcham Hills area is achieved.
ISA is an independent advisory body established to provide advice to government to enable informed and evidence-based decisions on infrastructure planning, investment, delivery and optimisation.
ISA will conduct a review of the work previously undertaken by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) to assess:
- if the planned traffic treatments at the Russell Street / Main Road / Sheoak Road junctions will adequately address the problems experienced at the Old Belair and James Road junction, without the need for a roundabout;
- if there are other more effective traffic treatments that could be considered at the Old Belair and James Road junction, rather than a roundabout;
- the environmental impacts associated with a roundabout; and
- if the proposed roundabout is justifiable in terms of its benefits, cost and associated environmental impacts.
This review is expected to commence shortly. On completion, ISA will provide a recommendation to the Department and the South Australian Government for consideration. The review findings will be made publicly available.
