Southern Ports Highway

The Australian and South Australian Governments have committed to upgrading two 15km sections of the Southern Ports Highway, from Beachport to Southend Access Road and from Robe to Clay Wells Road.

These works are jointly funded by the Australian (50%) and South Australian (50%) governments as part of the $168 millions Road Safety Program over three years

Project Background

The Southern Ports Highway stretches over 119kms between Kingston SE and Millicent, and is a key transport corridor for freight, agriculture, and tourism movements across the south east.

Two 15km sections of the Southern Ports Highway, from Southend Access Road to Beachport and from Robe to Clay Wells Road will undergo lane widening, shoulder sealing, pavement rehabilitation, culvert extensions and safety barriers, as well as audio tactile line marking. These upgrades will help keep motorists safe on the road and support regional economic growth

The 15 km section of the Southern Ports Highway, between the Southend Access Rd turn-off and Beachport outlet, will be reconstructed by Wattle Range Council on behalf of the Department for Infrastructure and Transport.
