Safety Information for Truck and Bus Drivers

On the approach to Adelaide, the South Eastern Freeway includes a long, steep downhill descent before arriving at a major intersection.

Before you try to drive down the South Eastern Freeway, remind yourself how to do this safely.

If even one driver won't admit their mistake, or get refresher training when needed, it could cost several lives.

About the South Eastern Freeway

The South Eastern Freeway forms part of the Adelaide-to-Melbourne road corridor. It is an important strategic freight route for South Australia. In 2021, the South Eastern Freeway, between Crafers interchange and Glen Osmond, carried an average of about 48,000 vehicles per day. About 5,200 of these were classed as heavy vehicles.

The South Eastern Freeway has unique conditions. This means truck and bus drivers need to follow certain rules and laws to ensure a safe journey for all road users.
