Removing the bumps along Sturt Highway
Monday 20 October 2025
Remediation works to address uneven surfaces of Sturt Highway, between Kingsford and Daveyston have commenced, improving safety and road rideability for all users.
Targeted patching will be undertaken on an 800-metre section near Kingsford (southbound) and a 400-metre section near Shea-Oak Log (northbound) to address uneven surfaces caused by soil movement.
Works will take place from Sunday to Friday between the hours of 7pm and 6am, with all major works expected to be completed early November 2025.
Audio Tactile Line Marking will also be replaced along these sections of the highway in the coming months.
With over 13,000 vehicles, including 2,000 vehicles using this section of the Sturt Highway each day, these works are vital for road safety and efficiency.
Once works are complete, speed restrictions of 80km/h will remain in place for several weeks to allow the newly laid asphalt to wear in and develop adequate skid resistance before speeds are raised.
Quotes attributable to a Department for Infrastructure and Transport spokesperson:
The Sturt Highway is an important route is for local communities and freight operators, and we’re committed to maintaining it to a high standard.
The underlying soil conditions of this section of the Sturt Highway are reactive clays and continual targeted patching will be required to address uneven surfaces as they develop.
We know roadworks and speed restrictions can be inconvenient, and we appreciate the community’s patience while these important works are undertaken.
