New electric buses arrive to boost Keoride capacity

Wednesday 15 July 2026

Six new electric buses have arrived in the Adelaide Hills, fully electrifying Mount Barker’s popular Keoride on demand bus fleet and increasing capacity for local passengers.

The new electric fleet replaces the existing diesel fleet and includes one additional bus to help meet growing demand.

The extra vehicle is expected to help reduce average wait times, increase service capacity and improve peak-period availability, supporting the now permanent Adelaide Metro service.

Following the introduction of the new fleet, around 300 tonnes of tailpipe carbon emissions will be reduced each year.

Keoride provides flexible, app-booked travel for Mount Barker, Nairne and Littlehampton residents.

Since Keoride launched in January 2020, the service has delivered more than 580,000 trips for Adelaide Hills residents, with around 7500 trips taken each month.

The new buses are part of an almost $3 million investment, which includes capital funding for the purchase of the six electric buses and upgrades to the Mount Barker depot to enable electric charging infrastructure.

The transition is part of the State Government’s broader $19 million investment to public transport in the Hills, including making the on-demand service permanent, upgrading the Mount Barker bus depot, and increasing Adelaide Metro bus services between Mount Barker and the city.

The service is best accessed through the dedicated app, which allows customers to book a bus to and from anywhere within the on-demand service area and track the arrival of their service in real-time.

Fares for the service are part of the metroticket fare system meaning customers can use their metroCARD, Tap and Pay, and the Buy & Go app to easily pay for their trip and also access free transfers to other Adelaide Metro services within a two-hour window.
