Increased safety for motorbike riders with new training
Monday, 9 September 2024
From 9 December 2024, future motorbike riders will need to undertake more training to get a motorbike learner’s permit or an R-Date licence. This practical training is part of the Motorbike Graduated Licensing Scheme.
Changes to the practical Rider Safe training will include:
- a hazard perception test
- a rider knowledge course,
- two full days of hands-on training,
- a pre-licence course, and
- a test for the licence.
Learners must complete all assessments and hold a learner’s permit for 12 months before they apply for an R-Date licence. This will allow them to ride a learner-approved motorbike.
The extra training will help to improve the skills of future motorbike riders.
Eight motorbike riders have lost their lives on South Australian roads this year. This makes up 14 per cent of all lives lost on the state’s roads so far in 2024.
