Expression of Interest – Building Technical Panel

Ordinary members

The Building Technical Panel (BTP) is established under South Australia's Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 as a Committee of the State Planning Commission. The BTP’s powers, functions and duties include acting as the Commission’s delegate:

  • under the Development Act 1993 (former Building Rules Assessment Commission functions)
  • under section 118 of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.

The BTP has a core membership of four persons (including a Presiding Member and Deputy Presiding Member). The Commission invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals with proven ability in performance based design and interpreting the requirements of the Building Rules in relation to:

  • design, building and construction
  • structural engineering
  • building engineering services (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, HVAC)
  • building surveying; and
  • building fire safety and/or fire-fighting operations.

There is one ordinary member position on the BTP that the Commission is seeking to fill.

Occasional members

The Commission is seeking also to supplement the Panel’s expertise by a establishing a supplementary panel of up to six occasional members with specialist expertise across the following areas:

  • building design / architecture
  • building surveying
  • domestic / commercial construction
  • structural engineering
  • building engineering services (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, HVAC)
  • building fire safety design / engineering
  • fire-fighting operations
  • façade design / engineering
  • energy efficiency design
  • disability access; or
  • heritage.

The Commission invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals to be appointed to the BTP as occasional members. Occasional members will be called up as the need arises.

Appointment details

Members are appointed initially until 2 October 2020 and are eligible for reappointment. Occasional members are remunerated at the same rate as ordinary Panel members.

Expressions of interest comprising a covering letter of no more than two pages and a curriculum vitae of no more than four pages are invited, and must address the candidate’s qualifications, knowledge, expertise and experience (specifically against the requirements above). Candidates should identify if they are seeking appointment as an ordinary member or an occasional members (candidates can nominate for both).

Selection of both core and occasional members will be a matter for the Commission.
