30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide Update released

Published Tuesday, 30 May 2017

Today marks a major milestone with the Minister for Planning officially launching the release of The 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide - 2017 Update.

The Update is the culmination of an extensive review process that commenced in 2015, which engaged councils, community groups, peak bodies and interested members of the public.

This Update describes our plan for how Greater Adelaide should grow to become more liveable, competitive and sustainable.

A central feature of the Update are six new targets, which are benchmarked and designed to measure the implementation of the Plan. The new targets set the headlines for how we can transition our city and regions to a new urban form which is less dependent on urban sprawl, protecting our world-class agricultural and environmental assets while encouraging greater housing choice, affordable living, healthy neighbourhoods and a wider variety of quality transport options.

The Update also features a strong focus on supporting better design quality as more dwellings are built within our existing metropolitan area.

In finalising the Update, the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (the Department) has responded to a number of suggestions through the engagement period by providing greater clarity of governance arrangements, new targets and further information on reporting and implementation.

The Department is working on a 12 month implementation program for the Update to work hand in hand with the planning reform implementation process.
