Statewide Road Improvement and Renewal Works
The Department is responsible for maintaining and improving more than 12,000 kilometres of sealed roads across South Australia, including 2,800 km of National highways, to ensure safe, reliable and efficient travel for all road users.
To ensure the network remains fit for purpose, DIT oversees delivery of a range of minor and major enhancement works, and annual maintenance renewal works across the network, including:
- Road pavement, rehabilitation or resurfacing works.
- Minor improvement projects such as intersection upgrades, kerbing, drainage, Blackspot Program projects and shoulder sealing works.
- Major improvement projects such as North South Corridor projects, Princes Highway Upgrades and Joy Baluch AM Bridge. Click here to view all the Road Projects.

Service providers
Following an extensive procurement process and consultation with industry, road maintenance contracts have been awarded to a number of providers. The initial term of contract is 7 years from the contract's start date with provision to extend for up to a further 6 years (+3 +3 years).
The scope of works include:
- Routine, specific and cyclical road maintenance;
- Emergency response;
- Mechanical, electrical and intelligent transport systems; and
- Minor capital improvement and annual renewal works programs.
The providers are required to comply with Southern Australian Industry Participation Policy, including providing opportunities for local service providers and suppliers.
