Belair line partial closure this weekend to undertake remediation work
Friday, 23 June 2023
The Belair line will be partially closed this weekend for maintenance work following rock slippage caused by extreme wet weather, with substitute buses operating between Mitcham and Belair stations.
Following rock slippage on the line near Coromandel Valley this week and continuing poor weather, geotechnical investigations have recommended remedial works at this location.
The works will be undertaken this weekend which includes further scraping the embankment to remove any loose material, and repairs to the damaged rock catch fencing at the bottom of the track near the Coromandel Parade bridge.
To allow the works to be safely undertaken, train services will cease between Mitcham and Belair stations from last service tonight, Friday, 23 June 2023 and will re-start at first service on Monday, 26 June 2023.
Substitute buses will operate between Mitcham and Belair stations to provide alternative services for commuters. Train services between Adelaide Railway Station and Mitcham will continue as normal.
Bikes will not be permitted on Adelaide Metro substitute buses this weekend.
Trains have been restricted to slower speeds through this section of track this week, in addition to round-the-clock monitoring on site.
Further longer-term remediation works are planned to be undertaken in August 2023.
Adelaide Metro apologises for the inconvenience to customers while these important works are undertaken.
