Regional aviation funding for safety and upgrades
Managing and maintaining regional aerodromes to meet regulatory requirements can be expensive.
The South Australian Government offers funding to help upgrade regional aviation infrastructure. We also help fund the cost of yearly safety inspections.
SA Supporting Regional Aviation Program
SA Supporting Regional Aviation Program (SASRAP) is a competitive grant program. It provides state government funding for infrastructure improvements. The funding is for regional and remote aerodrome networks within the state.
Funded upgrades will:
- make aerodromes safer and more accessible
- help aerodromes meet regulatory requirements
- accommodate changes in airline fleets and regional market growth
- provide economic and social benefits to the region through better aerodrome infrastructure.

Applications for SASRAP round 11 (2026 to 2027) closed on 15 June 2026.

Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program co-contribution funding
The Australian Government administers the Remote Airstrip Upgrade program (RAUP). However, the South Australian Government may provide matching co-funding towards projects.
Applying for RAUP funding
If you intend to apply for state government co-contribution funding, you must let us know. To do this, email DIT.RegionalAviationFunding@sa.gov.au.
Make sure this is also clear in your RAUP application.
For more information, visit Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program.
Mutual Liability Scheme annual safety inspections
South Australian aerodromes covered by the LGA Mutual Liability Insurance Scheme get regular safety inspections. We help fund these inspections each year.
Copies of inspection reports are sent to:
- our Department
- the South Australian Government Financing Authority (a unit of the Department of Treasury and Finance).
