Speed reductions to improve safety in Echunga

Speed limits on several roads leading into the town of Echunga in the Adelaide Hills will be reduced from 80km/h to 60km/h from Monday, 24 June 2024, enhancing safety for all road users and local residents.

The reduction follows calls from local residents to lower the speed limit, and a review from the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which found the move would improve safety while not noticeably affecting travel times.

The speed limit will be reduced from 80km/h to 60km/h on:

• Strathalbyn Road from just north of Shepherd Road to existing 60km/h north of Griffin Lane;
• Echunga Road from just north of the Dolman Road/Anderson Road intersection to the existing 60km/h north of Strathalbyn Road; and
• Church Hill Road from east of Old Mount Barker Road to the existing 50km/h east of East Street.

The reduction follows a speed limit review conducted for roads in the vicinity of the Echunga township to improve safety for all road users and the local community.

Other safety improvements include shoulder sealing and asphalting along Strathalbyn Road between River and Echunga roads.

Road users are encouraged to take care when driving in the area and observe the new posted speed limits.
