Notice to Mariners No 23 of 2020 (Temporary) (Cancelled 20/12/2022)
Friday, 28 August 2020
HARBORS AND NAVIGATION ACT 1993
SOUTH AUSTRALIA – RIVER MURRAY – RAISED POOL LEVELS
Mariners are advised that the Department of Environment and Water are carrying out floodplain environmental water operations during the coming weeks which will temporarily raise the River Murray water levels in the weir pools above locks 4 and 5. This will commence from 1 September 2020 and will include operating the environmental regulator structures on the Katarapko and Pike Floodplains.
The water levels will stay at the planned maximum heights for up to approximately 90 days after which they will slowly return to normal pool level by end of December 2020.
Mariners should proceed with caution in the areas described above due to the increased risk of submerged hazards, changed bridge clearance heights and other overhead hazards, in particular at the Gurra Gurra Bridges located at approximate location 34° 18’ 53.78” S 140° 36’ 22.20” E.
Mariners may also need to adjust moorings.
All queries should be directed to the Communications Officer, Water Infrastructure and Operations, Department of Environment and Water, on mobile 0403 933 811.
