Annual Report 2024

South Australia's Road Safety Action Plan 2023–2025: Annual Report 2024 provides a 12-month snapshot of achievements and progress against the action plan's ten priority areas.

During 2024, 89 people lost their lives on South Australian roads. This is:

    • 24% less than the 117 recorded in 2023
    • 10% less than the previous five-year average (2019–2023) of 99 lives lost.

However, this is above our 2024 target of 76 lives lost.

Sadly, 809 people were also seriously injured in road crashes across the state in 2024. This is above the 2024 target of 623 serious injuries.

    Key achievements

The South Australian Government, together with stakeholders, has delivered several road safety initiatives, such as:

    • improving the star rating on over 340 kilometres of the regional road network.
    • enhancements to the Rider Safe Program to better protect motorcyclists on our roads.
    • the new SA Police Road Safety Centre, which is leading the way in road safety education.
    • deployment of South Australia’s first mobile phone detection cameras.
    • release of the Workplace Road Safety Guide.
    • On the Right Track is an Aboriginal road safety and driver licensing program. It was recognised with the Indigenous Programs Award at the Annual Road Safety Awards.
