Cycling and pedestrian road safety improvements
We're improving pedestrian access and safety by delivering new bicycle and pedestrian actuated crossings and new or upgraded pedestrian refuges.
About the project
This program will improve footpaths, cycleways and some new and upgraded bicycle and pedestrian actuated (push-button) crossings.
An analysis of pedestrian crashes over five-years (2018 to 2022) shows the majority (70%) of pedestrian lives lost and serious injuries occurred between intersections, with 3% of these occurring at pedestrian crossings.
Push button crossings will improve safety and accessibility for people crossing at those busy roads between intersections.
These works are part of the Road Safety Program.
