Edward Street, Clarence Gardens Pedestrian Actuated Crossing

Edward Street, Clarence Gardens Pedestrian Actuated Crossing

We're making it safer and more convenient for pedestrians to cross Edward Street, Clarence Gardens.

About the project

We are upgrading the existing Koala Crossing on Edward Street, outside Edwardstown Primary School, to a Pedestrian Actuated Crossing (PAC).

This upgrade will improve pedestrian safety and accessibility to the Edwardstown Primary School and nearby homes.

The project is jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian Governments as part of the River Torrens to Darlington Project.

About the PAC

PACs strengthen connectivity for communities, improve accessibility for people with mobility impairments and make road crossing safer for pedestrians.

Every PAC includes an audible detection sound to help people locate the crossing button. The various sounds that these buttons make, particularly helps vision impaired people to locate and use the crossing.

Once the Edward Street crossing is upgraded to a PAC, 40km/h time-based school speed limit signs will be installed at the site, in line with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport’s wider 40 km/h School Speed Limit project. Traffic signal controls, line markings and road signage will also be installed to improve safety at the crossing.

Community engagement

We would like to thank the local community for sharing insights and feedback to inform the final design of the Edward Street PAC.
