About the project

Gorge Road is a high-speed, high-volume route popular with motorcyclists and cyclists. Identified for safety improvements in the Mount Barker and Adelaide Hills Transport Study, the road is winding and constrained by a rock face along one side.

Between 2018 and 2022, this section of Gorge Road recorded nine injury crashes and 13 non-injury crashes.

The planned upgrades include installing new safety barriers at three sites between Amber Gully and Corkscrew Road.

These improvements aim to reduce ‘loss of control’ and ‘run-off-road’ crashes and enhance safety at high-risk locations.

What's happening

The safety upgrade works will include:

  • installation of safety barrier
  • reinstatement of asphalt
  • shoulder sealing
  • line marking

Vegetation Management

We understand that trees are highly valued by the community. To achieve these critical safety upgrades, some vegetation management works will be undertaken in the coming weeks. All vegetation impacts will be managed in accordance with legislative requirements and the Department's Vegetation Removal  Policy.
