About the project

All works on Long Valley Road have now been completed, we appreciate your patience and cooperation while these important works were completed.

We delivered safety improvement works on Long Valley Road. This involved the construction of two new southbound overtaking lanes on Long Valley Road between the railway line to Gemmell Road, and between north of Valley Cottages Road and to the south of Mine Flat Road. Works also included two junction upgrades at Stirling Hill Road and Gemmell Road.

These improvement works formed part of the $155 million South Australian Rural Roads Safety Package, and the $150 million Adelaide Hills Productivity and Road Safety Package jointly funded (80:20) by the Australian and South Australian governments.

Works on the southbound overtaking lane between north of Valley Cottages Road and to the south of Mine Flat Road included:

• installation of wire medium safety barrier
• resurfacing and pavement rehabilitation, wider lanes and sealed shoulders
• upgraded safety barriers and upgraded signage
• upgraded drainage including kerb and gutter
• wide centre line and audio tactile line marking
• the installation of new u-turn locations at the ends of the southbound overtaking lane approximately 1.5 km north of Long Valley Cottages Road to south of Mine Flat Road
• vegetation management and removal (to improve sight distances and allow for increased width)
• services relocations

We also completed pavement remediation works on the southbound overtaking lane on Long Valley Road between the Steam Ranger railway line and Gemmells Road, and resealing works on Long Valley Road, between Bunnett Road and Wellington Road.
