Delivering a shared use path over the rail corridor at Goodwood to improve connectivity and safety, as well as inclusive access to the railway station.
About the project
The South Australian Government made an election commitment to put the Mike Turtur Bikeway Upgrade on hold until further consultation was undertaken to determine the next steps. This commitment was made in response to a high level of concern raised by locals about the potential impact to trees and Forestville Reserve.
On review of the potential design alternatives, and in consideration of community feedback received, it was determined that there are no feasible options to deliver an overpass or new underpass without significant tree impacts.
What's happening
We are making local improvements to existing infrastructure to improve the safety and amenity of local access, including the Mike Turtur and Marino Rocks bikeway connections in Forestville.
Key upgrades will include:
- As part of the Tram Grade Separation Projects, new elevated sections of the Mike Turtur Bikeway Shared Use Path were built, allowing walkers, runners and riders to seamlessly travel above South, Marion, Cross and Morphett Roads while on the Mike Turtur Bikeway, which follows the tramline between the city and Glenelg.
- Upgrades to Goodwood Railway Station and existing subway – we are improving safety and amenity, including a lighting upgrade, installing safety mirrors, CCTV installation, drainage improvements, new non-slip surface and re-painting.
- Forestville Reserve Archway Upgrades –
We have made local improvements to existing infrastructure in Forestville Reserve to improve the safety and amenity of local access. This included realigning and widening the Shared Use Path crossing over Brownhill Creek in Forestville Reserve, next to the overpass, and creating a new pedestrian path and widening two archways under the tram overpass, on the east and west sides.
