About the project

A draft concept design was developed to upgrade the intersection of Onkaparinga Valley Road, Tiers Road and Nairne Road, Woodside. The proposal aimes to improve safety for all road users and enhance functionality for heavy vehicle operators. The preferred concept design did not require property acquisition and included a pedestrian refuge near the Woodside Library.

Project Update

To help inform the planning process, feedback was sought from the community.  Early feedback showed that the draft concept design was not supported by the community, businesses and stakeholders.  A number of concerns were raised, particularly regarding the proposed design and the impacts to on-street parking.

As a result of this feedback, further planning will be undertaken collaboratively with Council to look at the area more broadly and identify enhancement opportunities to balance safety improvements with local access, parking needs and township character.

At the same time, recent and planned development in and around Woodside means the wider transport network needs to be reviewed. This includes the potential future development of the Inverbrackie Defence land, the new Foodland, upgrades and extensions to the Amy Gillett Bikeway, and the Woodside Splash Park.

Next steps

  • Adelaide Hills Council will lead this work for the town centre and surrounding roads. The Department for Infrastructure and Transport will continue to work closely with Council to support positive, long‑term outcomes for the Woodside community.
  • Outcomes from the earlier community engagement on the intersection upgrade will be provided to Council to help inform the master planning process.
  • The Department for Infrastructure and Transport will continue to work closely with Adelaide Hills Council, providing technical advice, data and support as investigations progress, to help achieve positive, long‑term outcomes for the Woodside community.
