Belair Road retaining walls maintenance works
About the project
We are undertaking essential maintenance works along Belair Road, below the Windy Point Lookout, Lynton. The maintenance works are required to preserve the long-term structural integrity of this section of Belair Road. The type of maintenance works will vary based on a range of factors including the condition of the existing retaining walls, heritage considerations of some of the existing walls, land stability and landslide risk.
These works will start from Tuesday 28 January 2025, after the Australia Day long weekend and will take approximately six months to complete, weather permitting.
The Windy Point Lookout carpark will be closed to the public after the Tour Down Under from Thursday, 23 January 2025, for the duration of the maintenance works.

How this affects you
To minimise disruption to all road users, the majority of works will be undertaken at night, Sunday to Thursday, between 7pm to 6am (weather permitting). No night works will be undertaken Friday and Saturday nights.
To keep everyone safe, there will also be changes to traffic conditions along Belair Road, including temporary road closures and traffic detours as follows:
Weekdays | |
Mornings, 6am – 1pm | Belair Road open to one-way traffic only (city-bound/downhill) between Windy Point Lookout and Cornish Court, Lynton. |
Afternoons, 1pm – 7pm | Belair Road open to one-way traffic only (Belair-bound/uphill) between Cornish Court and Windy Point Lookout, Lynton. |
Weeknights | |
Sunday – Thursday, 7pm – 6am | Belair Road closed in both directions between Windy Point Lookout and Cornish Court, Lynton, with detours in place. |
Weekends | |
Friday 7pm until Sunday 7pm | Belair Road will be reduced to a single lane with temporary signals in place to control the direction of traffic. |
Emergency access
Emergency services access will be maintained at all times.
In the event of a catastrophic fire danger day, there will be no works scheduled on Belair Road. The road will be open under traffic management to maintain a safe evacuation route (city bound only) and two-way access for emergency vehicles.
For more information, refer to the Emergency access fact sheet.
Public transport
Temporary bus stop closures and detours on Belair Road will be required during these maintenance works.
Further public transport information will be available before we start the main works via the Adelaide metro website, please visit www.adelaidemetro.com.au
