About the project
We are upgrading the intersection of Richmond Road and Railway Terrace to relieve congestion and increase future capacity for this important intersection.
This project is part of the $850 million package of Broader Network Upgrades, funded by the Australian and South Australian governments as part of the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project.
Richmond Road will become the critical connection for traffic entering and exiting the new T2D Motorway at South Road and Richmond Road. This $70 million intersection upgrade will address current congestion and increase future capacity for this important connection.
About 36,000 vehicles currently travel through this major intersection each day and increasing its capacity is crucial with Richmond Road’s positioning along the T2D motorway between the northern and southern tunnels.
This upgrade will:
- Ease congestion with less time stuck in traffic.
- Make it easier to travel between the T2D Motorway, western suburbs, Airport and the City.
- Improve access to major shopping and sporting precincts at Mile End.
- Improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
Major works for the project are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027 with completion expected by the end of 2028. More information will be provided in advance of main construction starting.
This timeline of works has been formed through careful planning to coordinate and sequence all works along Richmond and South roads as part of the T2D Project.
