Local Government Elections
Local Government periodic elections moved to April 2027
The South Australian Parliament has passed legislation to move South Australia’s next round of council elections to April 2027.
On 2 July 2026, the Local Government (Elections) (Periodic Elections) Amendment Act 2026 commenced and will move polling day for the next council periodic elections to Wednesday, 7 April 2027.
The Electoral Commissioner will determine other key election dates for the April 2027 elections, such as the close of the voters roll and the opening of candidate nominations. Further information will be available on the Electoral Commission of SA website and councilelections.sa.gov.au.
The council elections will return to a 4-year cycle in November 2031, with local government elections being held in the year after state elections.
