SANFL Community Football 2024 to raise awareness about the dangers of fatigue

Tuesday, 28 May 2024

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport has partnered with the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) as part of the THINK! Road Safety Partnerships Program. Together, they are working on a road safety campaign for the upcoming 2024 Community Football season to raise awareness about the dangers of fatigue, which is a leading cause of severe injuries and fatal accidents in regional communities.

This partnership provides access to more than 51,000 club players, supporters, volunteers, and officials across 22 regional SANFL Community Football Leagues and 175 regional SANFL clubs.

Every League has a designated THINK! Road Safety Ambassador who plays a crucial role in uniting football communities throughout regional South Australia.

Through committed and collaborative Ambassador relationships, the Department and SANFL work to help inform and influence football club members and their wider community to build greater awareness of the importance of being safe on the road to reduce the number of lives lost and serious injuries.

Every Ambassador receives a specially curated Ambassador Pack that includes club room posters, league social media and chat posts, speech notes with road accident statistics and facts, and other resources designed to assist clubs and leagues in spreading the THINK! Road Safety campaign message.

A dedicated THINK! Road Safety Round is played in May, with senior players wearing yellow armbands to remember lives lost or those who have been impacted by road trauma.

THINK! Road Safety SA Country Football Championships

Over the weekend of 13-14 July, the Department will partner with SANFL to deliver the THINK! Road Safety SA Country Football Championships to be held in Victor Harbor.

An extensive regional campaign targeting road safety concerns and risky behaviours, particularly fatigue, will take place in the weeks prior to the Championships.

Come and visit us at the THINK! Road Safety marquee on Saturday 13 July.
