Choose car safety

Thursday, 3 April 2025

Life is full of choices. Some easy. Some more difficult. But the choices you make are important.

When choosing a car, you can check its ANCAP Safety Rating to make sure you choose safety.

New cars are safer than old cars. Driving the safest car within your budget will give you and other road users a better chance of surviving a crash.

ANCAP Safety Ratings are available for thousands of different vehicle makes, models and variants. These are free and available on the ANCAP website.

These ratings show:

  • the level of safety a vehicle provides in the event of a crash
  • the vehicle's ability to avoid or minimise the impact of a crash.

The more stars, the better the vehicle performed in ANCAP tests.

Make sure you pause and ask yourself… "What’s its ANCAP safety rating?" whether you're:

  • getting picked up for a first date
  • about to have your first baby
  • babysitting your grandchild for the first time
  • taking the leap and purchasing an EV.
