Information for Essential Travellers – Commercial Transport and Freight Services

South Australia is strengthening its border control efforts with the establishment of an additional Command Centre based in the state’s South East.

The Mt Gambier command centre, announced this morning, will facilitate coordination and management of on the ground control efforts and activities at state border crossings.

In conjunction; additional freight-specific testing clinics have been established at;

  • Yamba – in operation

Yamba Quarantine Station, National Highway, A20

Operational 0700 to 2100 hours

  • Port Augusta, anticipated to commence operations Thursday, 6 August

Puma Service Station, Lot 9, National Highway 1

Operational 0700 to 2300 hours

  • Tailem Bend, commencing operations from 0700 tomorrow, 5 August

Caltex Service Station, 8786 Princes Hwy

Operational 0800 to 1600 hours

A reminder that all travellers into South Australia are required to complete a cross border registration form that must be completed 72 hours prior to arrival.

If you are a Commercial Transport and Freight Services Essential Traveller;

  • you need to apply online and provide sufficient evidence in your cross border travel registration form to allow a decision on Essential Traveller status to be made. Evidence in the application includes a letter from employer stating the duties required to be undertaken and details of the locations, ABN number and includes the employees name and address.
  • and approved to enter SA From NSW, ACT or VIC, you must have had a COVID-19 test up to 7 days prior to entry or as soon as practicable on entering SA. You will still be able to travel across the border into SA.  Police Officers at the border will note whether evidence of a test was sighted or a direction to obtain a test was given.
  • There are no testing requirements for freight Essential Travellers from WA, QLD, NT and TAS
  • For Essential Travellers from ACT/NSW and VIC testing is required and all commercial transport and freight Essential Travellers who are residents of Victoria must wear a face mask when entering South Australia and self-quarantine in their truck or other private arrangements when not undertaking work-related duties.
  • There is no requirement for Essential Travellers from ACT and NSW to self-quarantine while waiting for test results; unless displaying symptoms of COVID-19.
