Extra bus services for the Adelaide Hills

Friday 2 October 2026

Adelaide Metro commuters will benefit from improved frequency, reliability, and accessibility following a major overhaul of close to 70 bus timetables.

The changes will deliver nearly 150 additional services each week across the Adelaide Hills, supporting one of the state’s fastest-growing areas, reducing wait times and addressing community feedback.

Shifting resources into high demand areas will allow Adelaide Metro to improve reliability and network efficiency.

In the Onkaparinga Valley, 10 new services will operate between Verdun and Lobethal, with Route 834 to become a consistent hourly weekday service.

And we are introducing new services on weekends between these two communities, giving residents more opportunities to use public transport when it suits them.

We are introducing 14 new services between Crafers and Blackwood (Route 894).

And we have added an additional morning peak service between Burnside and the City (Route 820), providing another connection for Hills residents travelling to the city.

To keep buses running smoothly across the network, Adelaide Metro service providers are continuing to recruit drivers and have begun to rollout new GPS tablets for vehicles in their fleet.

Currently installed on more than 400 buses, the technology provides drivers with improved navigation and tracking, helping staff manage traffic conditions and service reliability in real time.

The timetable and service changes will take effect on Monday, 12 October 2026. Passengers are encouraged to visit the Adelaide Metro website in the coming days for more information, including the new timetables and route numbers.

This rollout builds on recent public transport investments across the Adelaide Hills, including the Mount Barker express routes, which delivered close to 600 extra weekly bus services.

During peak periods, Freeway services now run every six minutes thanks to the newly established Mount Barker Go Zone.

Accessibility across the network has also been improved with an upgraded Crafters Park ‘n’ Ride, which delivered 85 additional parking spaces.

The popular Mount Barker On-Demand service has also transitioned to a permanent fixture for the hills, through a $12.6 million funding commitment.

Earlier this year, the State Government upgraded the fleet with six new electric buses.
