Pedler Creek Bridge crossing the gap

Fifty super-T bridge deck support beams, each weighing up to 64 tonnes, are being installed on the new Pedler Creek Bridge at Seaford Heights, south of Adelaide, as part of the Main South Road duplication project.

The new four-lane bridge is being built over Pedler Creek, replacing the previous two-lane road bridge.

The super-Ts will provide the link between the bridge columns and the spans for the bridge deck, which will be poured over the top.

The beams range from 20 to 35 metres in length and weigh between 38 and 64 tonnes each. These large concrete beams have been poured off-site at local contractor Bianco Precast and trucked to the site. A 400-tonne mobile crane and a 600-tonne crane have been used to put the beams in place.

Once complete, the bridge will be 160 metres long and 23 metres wide and will include a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians.

The new four-lane bridge and shared use path will open to traffic in late 2023.

Construction of stage one of the Main South Road duplication commenced in early 2022 and is anticipated to be completed in 2024.
