Bridge and Culvert Upgrades Completed for Regional SA
Thursday, 10 August 2023
Work to upgrade several regional bridge and culverts in the Adelaide Hills is now complete, extending the life of the infrastructure and improving safety for all road users.
On Strathalbyn Road, a new bridge over Aldgate Creek at Mylor is now open, and the culvert over Leslie Creek has also been replaced.
The work has included replacing the existing bridge and the culvert with wider structures, installing new safety barriers and bridge barriers, and installing new footpaths and road surfaces.
Meanwhile at Wilmington, further north near Port Augusta, work to replace the bridge over Spring Creek and the culvert at Little Spring Creek, on the Horrocks Highway, is nearing completion.
That project has included construction of wider structures and installation of new safety barriers. At Spring Creek, traffic will be open to two lanes in mid-August (weather permitting) under speed restrictions.
Final pavement works will be undertaken when the weather is warmer as well as final line marking and installation of raised reflective pavement marker.
These works at Wilmington were funded as part of the $105 million South Australian Rural Roads Package – Horrocks Highway Corridor, to which the Australian Government has committed $84 million and the South Australian Government $21 million.
In the Adelaide Hills, the Aldgate Creek bridge works were jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian governments as part of the Bridges Renewal Program.
The Leslie Creek culvert works were funded by the South Australian Government as part of the Bridge Stimulus Package.
