Boat registration transfers go digital, saving time and hassle
Monday, 4 November 2024
Transferring boat registrations is now easier and more convenient than ever, thanks to a new online option.
Boaters can now skip the queues and transfer their boat registrations online using their mySAGOV account, offering a faster, easier way for boaters to get back on the water sooner.
To complete a transfer of registration, the buyer will need to provide the boat registration number, the seller’s client or licence number and the seller’s last name.
Previously, buyers were required to lodge a boat registration transfer notice in person at a Service SA centre.
This new, time-saving online option means the process is now similar to transferring a vehicle registration. It avoids a trip to a Service SA centre and saves time on the road, particularly for regional South Australians.
With more than 7,000 boat and boat trailer transfers completed in the past 12 months, this innovation will also free up Service SA staff to be better available to assist customers with more complex transactions.
If the boat isn’t currently registered, is from interstate or requires Hull Identification Number (HIN) validation, boaters will need still visit a Service SA centre for assistance.
Requests to transfer boat registrations must be completed within 14 days of purchase.
