Safety boost with track crossing upgrade
Monday, 9 December 2024
Work is nearing completion on the installation of a new Active Pedestrian Crossing on the Outer Harbor Line at Jane Street, West Croydon, with the completed crossing to improve user access and safety.
The Active Pedestrian Crossing features gates which automatically close as a train approaches, together with alarms and signals to alert pedestrians not to cross.
The upgrade also includes new accessible ramps and improved lighting to help facilitate safe crossing of the railway line and provide access to Day and Euston Terrace.
The previous passive maze crossing - and all pedestrian crossings across the Adelaide Metro rail network - meet all required railway safety standards . Pedestrians are reminded to stop, look, listen and think before crossing a track, and to look up from their phone.
As work on the Jane Street Active Pedestrian Crossing nears completion, the Outer Harbor rail line will be temporarily closed from the last train service on Friday, 13 December 2024 until the first train service on Monday, 16 December 2024. During this period, substitute bus services will operate in place of the scheduled train services.
Test trains will be operating between Bowden Railway Station and Woodville Railway Station over these days, so it is important that pedestrians continue to follow safe practices around the railway line.
