Main Road, McLaren Vale, wombat crossing now complete
Thursday, 15 February 2018
Safety and access improvements for pedestrians and cyclists are complete with the installation of a Wombat Crossing on Main Road, near Hewitt Drive, McLaren Vale.
The Wombat Crossing, a raised platform designed to help pedestrians cross busy roads, has a 40 km/h speed limit applied approximately 50 metres either side of the crossing.
Additional safety improvements include:
- flashing lights to increase awareness;
- upgraded street lighting near the crossing to improve visibility at night;
- improved stormwater drainage for the area.
The crossing and access improvements provide connectivity between the ‘Coast to Vines Rail Trail’ and ‘Shiraz Trail’ shared use paths with a safe area for pedestrians and cyclists to cross Main Road.
DPTI thanks road users for their patience while these important safety works were carried out.
