Essential works along Gorge Road
Thursday, 25 March 2021
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport is improving safety for motorists with rock stabilisation works along Gorge Road between Athelstone and Tippett Road, near Chain of Ponds, commencing Monday, 29 March, 2021.
Works will be undertaken on Gorge Road each weekday, weather permitting, until mid-June 2021. The road will remain open to traffic during the works under traffic management. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
No works will be undertaken between Thursday, 1 April to Tuesday, 6 April inclusive, and Saturday, 24 April to Monday, 26 April inclusive.
A complete closure of Gorge Road between Torrens Hill Road and Tippett Road will be required for approximately two weeks from late April 2021 on weekdays between 8am and 3pm, with details to be advised closer to the date. A detour will be in place when the road is closed via Torrens Hill Road and Tippett Road.
These essential works are being undertaken at this time of year due to favourable weather conditions and to ensure Gorge Road remains open during the bushfire season.
Emergency vehicle access will be provided at all times. Businesses in the area will remain open. Please support your local businesses.
Motorists are advised to allow for delays when planning their journey, observe signage and speed limits, and to take extra care when travelling through the area.
The $706,000 works are funded through the State Government’s Gorge Road Rockfall Management Program.
The Department thanks road users and local residents for their patience and understanding while these essential works are undertaken.
