Building a road safety culture in your workplace
Monday, 4 November 2024
For many jobs, driving is an important part of work. However, vehicle use is the number one contributor to serious injuries and deaths at work. Fatigue, distraction and speeding can contribute to road crashes.
A new Workplace Road Safety Guide: a guide for employers and workers (PDF, 20181 KB) has been developed to help employers to embed a positive road safety culture in their workplace.
The guide provides information, tools and resources to enable workplaces to:
- make safer choices around driving on the job
- manage road safety risks.
A pre-driving checklist (DOTX, 47 KB) and workplace road safety policy template (DOTX, 67 KB) are also available for workplaces. These can help to map reporting measures and responsibilities across organisations from the top down.

Workplace road safety is a key focus of the South Australia’s Road Safety Strategy to 2031. It is also a priority in the National Road Safety Action Plan 2023–25.
