National Road Safety Week 2026

Friday 8 May 2026

Road safety week

Every year, road crashes claim more than 1,300 lives and leave around 44,000 people seriously injured across Australia. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and each of us has a part to play in preventing harm.

National Road Safety Week takes place from 17–24 May, bringing communities across the country together to remember the lives lost on our roads and to promote safer choices behind the wheel. The week is led by the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group and focuses on practical actions we can all take to reduce road trauma.

How you can get involved

There are many ways to support National Road Safety Week and play your part in creating safer roads:

  • Make the pledge: commit to “drive so others survive” and share the message within your community.
  • Test your knowledge: take part in the road safety quiz to sharpen your awareness of safe driving practices.

Together we can make our roads safer for everyone. Let’s make every journey count - safely.
